This 352 page hardcover book is a 2025 reprint of the original which sold out. It contains primary research on some eight Newport gravestone carvers who spanned the 18 century and placed their work throughout southern New England and along the trade routes south to New Jersey, North Carolina and the islands. Detailed biographical studies are accompanied by analysis of their lettering and design material based on signed stones, probate records and account books. The book is illustrated with 182 gravestone photographs, numerous charts and extensive lists of the carvers’ stones.
